Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt has landed a new managerial job despite only being sacked a few weeks ago.
The Dutchman was recently relieved of his duties at Belgian side Beerschot after suffering relegation at the club.
Kuyt began his coaching career shortly after his retirement as a player, coaching youngsters at Feyenoord before taking the manager’s job for an ill-fated spell in charge of ADO Den Haag.
He only lasted 17 matches, but he was back at work a little over a year later at Beerschot.
Although Kuyt’s stint at the Belgian club ended in disappointment, things were not always bad for the former Liverpool attacker there.
He tasted success with Beerschot, helping them win the 2023-24 Challenger Pro League, which resulted in their promotion back into the Jupiler Pro League for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
However, the Antwerp outfit finished bottom of the table in the just-concluded season and failed to win any of their six relegation play-off fixtures, resulting in Kuyt’s departure.
Kuyt has wasted no time in returning to the dugout, though, with Football Club Dordrecht now confirming him as their new manager.
“FC Dordrecht has appointed Dirk Kuyt as its new head coach,” a statement on the club’s website said.
“The 44-year-old from Katwijk signs a contract for one season, until mid-2026, and will start working at the Krommedijk immediately.
Speaking to the club’s media after the move, Kuyt said: “I am looking forward to a new adventure at FC Dordrecht with great pleasure.
I have seen that FC Dordrecht has become a stable club in recent years.
A team that plays good and attacking football, but also develops many young talents?
I look forward to getting started as soon as possible.”
FC Dordrecht currently compete in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of the Dutch football league system.
